April is California’s and Sonoma County’s Earthquake Preparedness Month. According to Cal OES (Office of Emergency Services), knowing what to do during an earthquake is essential, because it’s not if an earthquake strikes, but when.  Some key take – a ways from this event will be signing up for state alerts, such as My Shake App, self-protection during an earthquake   and  how to develop an emergency preparedness kit and  plan specific to  your daily needs.

The “Big Shaker – the world’s largest earthquake simulator -” will be the main attraction of the free family-friendly activities free event”. Attendees can experience what an 8.0 earthquake feels like. There will be a wide range of local and county-wide resources – such as County of Sonoma Department of Emergency Management – informational booths, interactive workshops, emergency preparedness giveaways, and raffles. In addition, there will be information about health coverage and access – particularly in the event of a disaster.
